Why Join Olives SA?

To have an impact on Federal issues you need a National Body, and to have an impact at State Level you need a state body.  Government only want to talk to State or National bodies not small fragmented groups.

It is the aim of Olives SA is to represent olive growers at State & Local Government levels. Our objective is to:

  • Increase the profile of the SA Olive Industry.
  • Continue to educate consumers about the benefits of authentic Australian EVOO.
  • Identify & recommend R&D projects.
  • Be involved in the development of policy that impacts growers at State level.
  • Support quality systems and processes.
  • Communicate and disseminate information to the various regions via the regional representatives.
  • Administer activities such as workshops, field days and seminars.

Olives SA works towards these objectives through a range of activities including:

  • Production of a bi-monthly newsletter called “The Olive Tree” informing members of forthcoming events and topical issues from a local and national perspective, and in which members are invited to contribute.
  • Regular functions such as field days, seminars and workshops covering topics such as site preparation, weed & pest management, planting, harvesting and pruning, chemical analysis, olive oil tasting and olive oil blending, to provide members with opportunities for access to information and decision-makers as well as valuable networking and information exchange.
  • Dinners, meetings and informal gatherings to meet fellow olive enthusiasts, allowing for exchanging of ideas and networking.
  • Residential workshops conducted on the art and science of making of olive oil and table olive production.
  • Sponsorship of experts to conduct training, educational and diagnostic activities.
  • Funding local research and development activities such as oil quality testing and investigations into the value and variety of the unique feral olives of South Australia.
  • Liaison with other olive organizations and individuals across the country to access and disseminate information of value to the industry.
  • Presenting South Australian Industry views at local and national forums to ensure that industry groups, politicians and government agencies understand and take notice of our concerns.
  • Raising money from Government, industry sources and fund raising events to support development activities in this state.
  • Promoting South Australian Olive products at events such as the Royal Adelaide Show, Tasting Australia, annual OSA Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Table Olive Awards and Farm Field Days. Olives SA ran a very successful and profitable AOA National Conference in 2002.
